April Durham
Apprentice
"When it came time to have our baby, their personal and clinical skills were crucial. They were thoroughly prepared, medically, for my personal situation."
- Jackie Y.
I grew up on a small farm in Washington state and birth has always been part of my life. Watching animals follow their instincts gave me a foundation in the normalcy of pregnancy and birth. It also taught me to expect the unexpected; and that support, knowledge and skills are essential to being a responsible care provider.
I have been attending births as a doula and have assisted midwives since I was 17. I have taken many workshops over the years including Ayurveda in Midwifery, Wholistic Midwifery, Heart and Hands, and Spinning Babies. I am certified in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.
I met my partner Sam at age 18, we married in 1996 and have three earthside children together. Our boys, Tanner and Cole were hospital births in 1997 and 1998; and in 2005 we welcomed our daughter Langley at home. My family has been my greatest teacher and proudest accomplishment.
My favorite part of birth work is watching families evolve and grow. I look forward to providing nurturing care for families through this monumental time in their lives.
I am grateful to be at a place in life where I am able to commit to becoming a licensed midwife. I met Lisa in 2005 and she introduced me to KathRyn a few years later. I admire and appreciate their knowledge and skills. It is who they are as people and their midwifery partnership that I love the most. Birth is serious, sacred work - but we have fun too. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow with Lisa and KathRyn as their apprentice.
